Darken: Cyborg Ranger
Cyborg Marine Ranger Darken Wolf is coming to Earth to become a law enforcement officer in the post-apocalyptic American West and meet his genetic mate. When he arrives, she is missing.
Gina Malcolm’s best friend points him to Overlord Devlin White, from whom she escaped several years before. Darken steals into the Overlord’s compound to free her, and they flee. Of course, it couldn’t be that easy.
A fighter plane follows Darken’s sky cycle and shoots them down over the New Mexican desert. While the landing was a little rough, the bigger problem is that Darken’s CPU shuts down, and the sky cycle burns along with Darken’s only comm. He is not even sure where they are but decides going North is the best plan. It could be a very long walk.
This is only the beginning as they get acquainted and embark on a life as a couple. All they have to do is survive long enough to share a future together.
Vyken Dark Kindle Book Giveaway

Dear Readers,
In celebration of completing the first draft of Dagger Jack, I am giving away FREE Kindle copies of Book One Vyken Dark 6/4-6/5.
(Check back if Amazon lags on changing it.) Clarissa Lake and I have
decided that Dagger Jack will be the finale of the Cyborg Awakening Series. To thank all our readers for supporting our work, Dagger Jack will be FREE and wide. We hope to release it at the end of the month.
This is not the end of our collaboration, nor the end of our cyborg tales. I haven’t decided if Calan is going to be the last of the Aledan Series. I am considering possibly writing Casir’s and Lanimer’s stories. Casir was introduced in the prequel Psion Mates, and Lanimer in Surviving Zevus Mar.
Although Surviving Zevus Mar was a painful
journey when I wrote it, I felt it was a story that needed to be told
because of the harsh realities in the news from Africa and the Middle
East. It was not just meant as a revelation, but also a tribute to those
who suffered at enemy hands and went on with their lives. Despite all
of the copies sold and all of the pages read there is not one single
review. That’s okay, but I am interested in what you think about it.
Feel free to email your comments or leave it on my website. Just click
on my name.
Thanks for reading

Why Cyborgs

I started reading cyborg romances a while before I decided to write my own. While doing beta reading for T.J. Quinn on her Cyborg Reborn Series, I started reading cyborg romance by other authors. I started Cynthia Sax’s Cyborg Sizzle series with No. 10 Seeking Vector. Of course, after that, I had to go back and read the entire series. Pretty soon, I was reading every cyborg romance I could find.
Eventually, Vyken Dark was born.
I spent years writing and polishing my Aledan series and creating the Aledan universe. The heroine Michelle “Chelle” Marlow is living in the ruins of the fictional city of Farringay on an Earth devastated by alien interstellar war. Cyborgs were made to fight wars.
Even though I used a number of the same tropes familiar to cyborg romances, I wanted it to be different than the others. Some cyborg series have them escaping misguided natural humans who want to destroy them once the war is over. They seemed to forget that even though the cyborgs are genetically and cybernetically enhanced, they are also human beings.
Some series have cyborgs that are more machine than human. Naomi Lucas’ cyborg shifters are enhanced with animal DNA. Marie Dry’s cyborgs were aliens.
But not all cyborgs were made for war. Nellie C. Lind’s cyborgs are made for love in her bound by her series. While some cyborgs were made for war, there was also a line of cyborg lovers.
“Can’t find Mr. Right? Why not create him?
MedAct is the company that can make all your
dreams come true! Just give them a call and let them create the perfect man for
you. But remember, you can never give him up. It will kill him, literally.”
Only they don’t all die. Some go rogue, and some go insane. Something sinister is going on at MedAct, but no spoilers here. I really enjoyed this series and devoured each of them almost as soon as they were released.
In my series, the cyborgs start out being treated like property, but when the public learned that they were created from human embryos, they demanded human rights for the cyborgs. After that, they were committed to a finite length of service and freed.
Befriended by a Federation Spacefleet admiral, Vyken Dark is encouraged to go back to post-apocalyptic Earth after the war instead of going to live in the cyborg colony on a world called Phantom. Because of his unique relationship with the Admiral, Vyken wants to grant his friend’s dying wish. There is a group called the Civil Restoration Enclave, trying to rebuild a pocket of civilization just south of Chicago in the former cyborg production facility.
There he finds his female, the one female he can sire offspring with. Vyken later believes the Admiral convinced him to go back to Earth because the gene pool there would most likely have produced his female. That does happen for him, but Vyken also discovers thousands of cyborgs still in stasis at the facility.
In some respects, it’s kind of like the wild west, and the cyborgs are the new lawmen in town. Or the Vikings of the future, ruthless warriors bred and conditioned kill with abandon until there are no more enemies to kill. What’s a cyborg to do when the killing stops?
To keep them motivated, they are promised they will find their genetic mate to breed and make a family, to love and be loved. While I never actually said as much in the story, I am pretty sure Vyken Dark didn’t really believe in that fairy tale.
When he finds her, he is sexually attracted to her, but he doesn’t quite know how to translate his attraction to her into a relationship. Most courtship customs have been forgotten in post-apocalyptic Chicago. However, Danya’s father, introduced in the Cyborg Awakenings Prequel, came from a family that valued books and reading. He collected books wherever he found them and taught her mother to read as well as Danya.
While Danya never had a real romance, she had read about romance, so she knew that dating was mainly about spending time with a prospective mate. My whole Cyborg Awakening series is a prequel to the Aledan series.
So why do I now have Clarissa Lake as the lead writer for the series now? I am retired from my day job with a modest retirement income that allows me to write and publish but the return on the hours invested would make pathetic wages. I plan to write some shorter stories based on both series next year and plot some longer works in the Cyborg Awakening Series with Clarissa. There may be a box set of Cyborg Awakenings in the Future.

Coming Soon from T.J. Quinn

Arantxa thought her best friend was crazy to even think about applying to an alien matchmaking agency to find a husband. Samantha thinks it’s a great opportunity for them to escape their mundane lives and get husbands. She will even pay Arantxa fee. She finally gets Arantxa to agree with plans for them to only look for mates on the same planet.
When Samantha finds her mate first, Arantxa convinces her she should go ahead and meet him. With Samantha gone, Arantxa decides to take a chance on a man named Biurk from the same planet. Things start to go haywire from there.
Instead of letting her use the agency transport, he convinces her to let him send a ship for her. Arantxa has her suspicions that things aren’t quite right but she tamps down her doubts.
The ship is seized by pirates who kidnap her to sell as a sex slave. But before they arrange to sell her they take her back to their planet and amuse themselves by torturing her and the ship’s crew.
So Biurk hires a mercenary to rescue. Arantxa. She feels an unexpected attraction to Korben who is sent to rescue her. A wrong turn and a missing communicator leave them lost in the forest alone together.
Feeling dutybound to give Biurk a chance to court her, Arantxa fights the growing attraction to Korben. Only vaguely humanoid compared to Biurk, Arantxa doesn’t understand this illogical fascination with this alien who no one would mistake for human.
Nothing is quite as it seems nor do all the pieces fall together until almost the very end.
Note: Arantxa is expected to release in November, and I can tell you it’s a great story.

My Review
Rise of theAncients is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It is a well crafted story. The writing is great, and I loved the way characters played off each other. As the story progresses and their passion for each other unfolded, it felt real. No silly games or contrived misunderstandings. Even when the heroine tries to pull away from the hero due her misgivings about their relationship, he pulls her back in and reaffirms their bond. The romance is steamy and passionate without being too explicit. The good guys win and the our hero and heroine begin their HEA. I will be looking at other work by this author.

Star Knight Errant: Thrust – A Review
When Martian Air Science Engineer Cass Hedley takes a dare to use her new Artificial Intelligence system for a night of erotic release, there’s only one man she can imagine spending time with—the legendary comic book hero Star Knight Errant. She imagines strong hands, hard abs, and bubble baths, but her black market AI has another idea—an illegal fight club that will only end in her sexy companion’s death…or hers.
When Evander Mór transports to an unknown desert planet, his mission changes. Instead of brokering a peace deal, he’ll figure out what backwater he’s landed on and enjoy a well-earned weekend off with a gorgeous scientist. But when things get hotter than a supernova between them, he discovers he only has eighteen hours to stop an AI bent on murder, convince Cass he’s more than fiction, and find a way to cross the gulf between galaxies to bring her home.
This book sounded so good that I volunteered to feature it on my review thread. Unfortunately, I just got the link to get the ARC because I forgot to look in JUNK. So for now, I have just posted the cover and blurb with the buy link. It already has 5-star reviews by at least one reviewer whose work I know and respect for her honest reviews. So, I am expecting to enjoy this book as well. Take a look for yourself by going to Amazon and using the “Look-Inside” feature, and I’ll be back soon with my own honest review.
My Review
This was a fun read, though it never quite came clear if he was real or not. A divorcee alone for the weekend while her kids visit her ex, congers a lifelike clone through her home AI system. He is Star Knight Errant Evander Mόr the comic book hero she crushed on as a teenager. He is even more attractive in his cloned flesh.
Unfortunately, the AI also produces foes for them to fight between their sexcapades. It was more instant lust than love, but I liked the creative way the author wrote the sex scenes in a way that transcended the act itself.
I also liked that it was set on a Mars colonized by humans. I don’t want to give any spoilers. One reviewer said it had great ideas but called it a ho-hum romance with love scenes that were not that sexy. Some readers might not buy the insta-love/lust aspect of the romance, but I found it believeable from the heroine’s point of view.
Cass was cloning a the lover of her dreams for a sexy weekend romp, and she picked her favorite fictional character. It seems reasonable that she would create one who would find her irresistible.
I thought it was well written. I enjoyed the novella and would read more from this author.
