Trouble landed on Space Station Zed in the form of sexy but bawdy Samantha Crane. Security Chief Colin MacKenzie is torn between annoyed and attracted. Drawn together, Sam and Mac fight an ancient enemy newly awakened. This enemy destroys everything in its path threatening the station and millions of people. Will their passion and love be enough to win, or will a lack of trust destroy them?
Trusting no one, Sam fights her very nature to stay away from by the book Security Chief MacKenzie. She skirts the law and scoffs at those who try to enforce it. But Mac can’t be ignored. Samantha must learn to trust so she may save herself, Mac, and everyone around her. Her family’s betrayal has made her cautious and cynical. She hides her true self behind a wall of toughness. Her family’s demands create conflict, causing her to question everything she knew. As Samantha begins to accept her feelings for Mac, she knows she will need to make a choice that could cost her, and the man she loves, his life.
Delving into Sam’s secrets, Mac discovers the woman beneath. Her suspicious disappearances into deep space intrigue Mac the security chief but Colin only feels curiosity. Colin’s love helps Samantha to open herself up and trust – him and herself. He knows there will come a time when he will have to make a choice, he only hopes Samantha will accept the one he makes.
Rise of theAncients is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It is a well crafted story. The writing is great, and I loved the way characters played off each other. As the story progresses and their passion for each other unfolded, it felt real. No silly games or contrived misunderstandings. Even when the heroine tries to pull away from the hero due her misgivings about their relationship, he pulls her back in and reaffirms their bond. The romance is steamy and passionate without being too explicit. The good guys win and the our hero and heroine begin their HEA. I will be looking at other work by this author.
